The price. Gamban costs $6.99 a month or $41.99 a year (US pricing page, as of July 2026). That's not expensive against gambling losses, but if the subscription is the reason you'd delay installing protection, a free tool you install today beats a paid one you install next month.
The one test every alternative has to pass
Before comparing features, apply a single question to any blocker, including ours: how long would it take you, alone at 3 a.m. with an urge peaking, to switch it off? Gambling urges typically build, peak and fade within about 20 to 30 minutes when you don't act on them. iOS Screen Time: free, built in, and only as strong as your passcode
Every iPhone ships with a Gamban alternative already installed. Screen Time can lock individual gambling apps behind a 1-minute daily limit and restrict re-downloads through age-rating filters. The catch is structural: if you set the passcode yourself, you can lift every limit in seconds, at exactly the wrong moment. For a product you'd trust with your weakest moments, that level of opacity is a real cost, and with verifiable alternatives available, we can't recommend buying blind.
A note on general-purpose blockers
Tools like parental-control suites and distraction blockers can technically block gambling sites, and some people make them work. Their weakness is the blocklist: gambling isn't their specialty, new casino domains appear constantly, and you become the maintainer of your own protection.
